Virtuoso Building
|

Address: 505 Main Street
This five-story office and retail building was designed by David M. Schwarz, Architectural Services, Inc., to maintain the character of the historic Sundance area and to continue the area's engaging pedestrian rhythm and urban texture. Linbeck Construction Corporation built the building.
The building's facades are subdivided into smaller elements, such as oriel windows, solid "towers" with punched windows, and bays of glass curtain wall, which have vertical proportions giving more elegance to the relatively horizontal overall building form. These discrete elements of the façade are tied together by base and cap stories of contrasting color. The vertical division of the building into distinct base, middle, and capital portions is a well used architectural tradition that helps to make the building more visually comprehensible to the viewer. This strategy was also used in the Burk Burnett Building just across Main Street. A courtyard at the south side lets more light into the office floors and makes a pleasant outdoor dining patio.
